CAPT/ACAP is announcing a National Conference to be held in Toronto, Ontario JUNE 13 & 14, 2025. The focus will be acquiring more skills and knowledge of our trade and learning of industry trends and opportunities. CAPT/ACAP members, and members of other piano technician organizations and unaffiliated technicians are invited to register below to attend this event. Day 1 (June 13th) will be held at Merriam Pianos (Robert Lowrey location) and Day 2 (June 14th) will be held at Yamaha Canada. DAY 1 – Friday, June 13: 9AM – 4:30PM – host location: the Robert Lowrey location of Merriam Music, 943 Eglinton Ave, Toronto, ON.
Featured presenter is Bob Bjerke, experienced concert technician from Vancouver B.C. presenting a technical in the morning,“Bob on the Spot” an interactive class moderated by Ron Giesbrecht sharing practical tips and demonstrations to diagnose, manage service time and priorities in servicing grands and uprights in performance applications. Discussions will include practical “quick fix” solutions, opportunities for Q and A dialogue and depending on time work stations to advance skill development.
Afternoon classes will continue with “Tips, Techniques and Solutions” – a class on trouble-shooting piano performance problems led by Ron Giesbrecht and Bob Bjerke.

DAY 2 – Saturday, June 14: 9AM – 4:30 PM – host location: Yamaha Canada Music Ltd., 135 Milner Ave. Scarborough, ON
Jim Welter, director of piano, band & orchestra will start off the day discussing the state of the piano business and market in Canada.
Simone Tucci, National Piano Service Manager, Customer and Technical Experience Manager will be continuing with a technical focus in providing product information, demonstrations and opportunities involving the latest upright and grand Disklavier system “retrofits” for Yamaha pianos (installed by technicians).
Sakurako Tsunematsu, Yamaha Corporation of Japan, Piano Technical Academy Instructor; Sakurako will demonstrate techniques for grand damper wire installation and regulation.
Dwight Pile, owner of Grand Touch Piano Restoration. With many decades of experience in servicing and restoring pianos, Dwight will share insights on methods he uses for advanced repairs, in particular, piano restringing done in a practical, efficient way using innovative tools and techniques. Dwight is also well known as an expert in polyester finish repair and able to share tips on this topic.
